Specialized in-home Alzheimer's care for every stage — funded at $0 through Alberta Blue Cross and the CDHCI program. Consistent, trained caregivers matched to your loved one's needs.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain condition that gradually destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out the simplest tasks. It is the most common form of dementia, affecting approximately 747,000 Canadians — and the number is expected to nearly double by 2031.
For many families in Calgary, keeping a loved one with Alzheimer's at home is both the preference and the right decision. Research consistently shows that familiar environments, consistent caregivers, and preserved daily routines slow cognitive decline and improve quality of life for people with Alzheimer's.
At Sagewell, our approach to Alzheimer's care in Calgary is built around that evidence: the same caregiver, consistent routines, a familiar home, and a care plan that adapts as the disease progresses.
Alzheimer's home care in Calgary can be funded through the CDHCI program (Client Directed Home Care Invoicing), administered by Alberta Health Services. Under CDHCI, eligible clients choose their own authorized provider — and Alberta Blue Cross pays the provider directly at $33.61/hour. Families pay nothing for approved hours.
To qualify, your loved one must be assessed by an AHS caseworker as having unmet home care needs. Alzheimer's disease almost always qualifies. Call Health Link at 811 to request the assessment, or contact Sagewell and we will guide you through the process.

In early Alzheimer's, your loved one can still manage many tasks independently. Our caregivers provide companionship, gentle reminders, cognitive engagement activities (puzzles, music, reminiscence), light meal preparation, and transportation assistance. The goal is to maintain confidence and slow cognitive decline through mental stimulation and routine.
In middle-stage Alzheimer's, confusion, repetitive behaviours, and wandering become more common. Sagewell caregivers provide full personal care assistance, structured daily routines, medication reminders, wandering supervision, and respite for family caregivers. Consistency is critical — we assign the same caregiver whenever possible to reduce confusion and agitation.
In late-stage Alzheimer's, individuals require comprehensive personal care and often comfort-focused support. Our caregivers assist with all activities of daily living, positioning and skin care, oral hygiene, feeding, and compassionate companionship. We work closely with family and healthcare providers to ensure comfort and dignity are maintained. See also: palliative home care Calgary.
We assign the same caregiver to every visit. For Alzheimer's clients, unfamiliar faces cause distress. Consistency builds trust and reduces agitation significantly.
Our caregivers are trained in dementia-specific care techniques including redirection, validation therapy, and safe mobility assistance for cognitive impairment.
We provide caregivers who speak Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and English. For Alzheimer's clients, reverting to their first language is common — and deeply important to address.
As a CDHCI-authorized provider, we bill Alberta Blue Cross directly. Most Alzheimer's clients qualify for funded hours — your family pays nothing for approved care.
Alzheimer's is progressive. We review and update your loved one's care plan regularly to ensure it matches their current stage and evolving needs.
Caregiver burnout is real. CDHCI covers respite care as part of the service — so family caregivers can rest knowing a professional is present.
Sagewell Home Care is a CDHCI-authorized Alzheimer's care provider. Let our trained caregivers support your loved one while you take the next step forward.
